Saturday off road runs

This Saturday’s Off Road Run (12 Jan) will now be at the earlier time of 1pm.  There is also a change of meeting place and route.  Birthday girl, Lex really wants to go up Conic Hill as she has planned a while back, so lets grant the birthday girl her wish!  If we can meet at Balmaha Car Park at 12.45pm for a 1pm start that would be great.  There is the option of just running to the top or continue onto the WHW then back along the muddy path/pavement to return the the car park.

The following week, Saturday 19 Jan we will be heading further afield to Aberfoyle to run along the shores of Loch Ard and through the forest.  I suppose a few of you hardy athletes will go for a swim beforehand! We will meet at Milton car park at 1.45pm, 2pm start.  This is a beautiful run regardless of the weather and Colm, its all off road on forest paths..I know you have several footwear options ;-) . Options for an 8 or 10 miler.

On Saturday 26 Jan it’s Buchlyvie 10k.  Details to be found on Qbuster.com. I’ll be taking part.  It’s mainly off road through forest tracks along an old railway line and a good one to kickstart the years racing and get competitive again!

A few people have asked for guidance on running technique.  I am happy to give advice and top tips as a group and to individuals on these runs, however I believe in Steve Jones, who set a British marathon best time which still  2:07:13 remains the fastest time of any British marathon runner, thoughts that  running is, a simple, uncomplicated exercise/activity that anyone can do. It may need hard work, it may hurt but the benefits are so rewarding no matter what level you want to achieve.

annual awards 2012

Thats right, its that time of year again when you get to say your piece about the fantastic efforts your club mates have put in throughout the last year – as well as celebrating the comedy gems that have had you in stitches this year when out training.
Trot along and vote here:

There are still a few places left for the Christmas night out, so if you’ve yet to sign up, get along to the forum & get your name down – its a great excuse to let your hair down (except for, well, you know who you are :p ) and get to know your club mates without mud and road traffic getting in the way. We’ve also opened this up to friends and partners, so let them know where the party is going to be! Details are on the forum.

See you all on the 8th for the big bash!

Cheers,

Saturday afternoon off road run sessions

Wendy Gorman is organising a weekly run starting Sat 29th September and hopefully enter teams for some cross country races.  Most runs will be Northside.  All abilities welcome as I’ll try and make most runs an out and back.

The off road runs take place in various locations each Saturday afternoon.  We meet at 1.45 for a 2pm start and I post up details on the forum and on fb.  The runs will continue through November and hopefully start back in January.

Saturday 3 Nov Off Road Run. Plan was to run in the Dumbarton hills from Croftamie, however several people are racing on the Sunday, so thought an easier run would be better. Meet at St Kessogs Church, Blanefield 1.45/2pm for an out and back run along the pipe track to Killearn. If you haven’t been before this will be a good one to come along to. Longest option 14k or turn back whenever!

Also a few of us are going to Gorebridge on Sunday 4 Nov for a xc race. Get in touch if you are interested. Should be fun!

Sat 10/11 Tinto hill race or meet at Leisuredome, Bishopbriggs 1.45/2pm

Wednesday night spin class

Winter is upon us, dark nights have arrived, spin is a great way to keep your cycling up while staying nice and cosy, with good company!
If you have never been to a spin class before now is your chance!

Where – Bellahouston Leisure Centre
When – Wednesday evenings at 7.45pm – 8.45pm
Cost – £4.00 (£5.00 for non club members)

The bikes have SPD clip in pedals, though if you bring a spanner you could stick your own on.   Bring HR monitor if you have one, towel, water.

Look forward to seeing you all there!
